Waikato Offroad Racing Club takes line honors at the Peter Howell Enduro

Last weekend the Auckland club ran the annual Peter Howell event in the Maramarua forest. The conditions were kind to competitors with dry weather and fantastic racing conditions.

The day was made up of a “sprint” race to work out starting position for the first of two 90km races. Ben Thomasen showing his dominance from the outset posting poll with Dyson not far behind.

Making a appearance for the first time was new WORC club member Steve Rowe from Putaruru also posting a very respectable time. Other WORC club members all doing well and was great to see Neil Hook, with his immaculate Class 10, AKA “The General Flee” offroad weapon making a re-appearance.

With the start of Race 1 saw the retirement of Neil, (early argument with a tree) but other than that the Waikato competitors were well placed for the start of the second race.

With the fast work of the “The General Flee’s” service crew Neil rejoined the event start of race 2. The UTV boys were in a league of their own taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd outright (all WORC competitors) and other club members spread throughout the field. Unfortunately Cameron Taylor’s day came to a end when he lost a wheel on his class 2 truck late in the day.

All in all a great representation from WORC for a well run event and a great pre-cursor to the NZ1000 in September this year.

Also a great big thank you to all the volunteers who helped out on the day to made it a great event including marshalls, registrars, scrutineers, lap scorers, flag marshalls, first aider, comms people, certificate maker, bbq cookers and servers etc and for the main organisers for the event

– well done and many thanks.
